    Hey Germdoc - Immune Boosters?

Do Zicam, Airborne and the other immune boosters really work? I saw recently that Airborne's manufacturers were fined for false advertising.

Considering where Zicam spends a lot of its advertising dollars, I am inclined to not believe their claims. Everything else that comes out of that spokesperson's mouth is pure BS so I have to assume that their claims are also! :P

      I'm not a big fan.

Everything you need to know about staying healthy you learned in kindergarten: Eat well, don't smoke, get plenty of rest, exercise regularly, wash your hands.

And when I get sick with a cold, I take some Claritin-D (generic), Aleve and drink brandy before bedtime. Makes me feel better until I get over it.

My favorite remedy used to be a joint and a double bourbon.

Now that I'm all grown up, its just a triple Maker's Mark (getting up in the world of adulthood) and a few Aleves.

Regardless of the network ads or any other spokesman you have to believe in homeopathy. If the theory doesn't make sense to you, you probably won't even try it. We had a sickly child and took her to an MD who specialized in homeopathy and that was the only thing that helped her. We have used some basic remedies at home for more than 20 years and it's like any other treatment. Sometimes it works and somethimes it doen't.
          Blessings,
          Chiz

Be careful about mixing alcohol and Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs). Some research shows significant liver problems with the two.

Skip the Aleve and drink more!

              Mike,

Thanks for the excuse to drink more. Although, too much drinking turns your liver into a large piece of coal. But think of the fun.

                OK. My 2 cents.

Zicam actually does work, IF you use the nasal gel within 2 days of a cold onset. It can reduce cold symptoms by an average of 2.3 days. It's the zinc that does it. And double blind placebo-controlled research backs up this claim.

OTOH, Airborne was developed by a kindergarten teacher. Need I say more?

My wife swears by Zi-Cam. She brags on it. It has really helped shorten her colds, and make them easier. By the second day she is still ailing, but it doesn't drag her down or make her miss work. Here I am though, an overweight Type II diabetic, and I get only 1 or 2 colds in 3 or 4 years. Some things don't make a whole lot of sense somtimes.
