    George Carlin Tribute

A week before he died it was announce that George Carlin was to recieve the Mark Twain Award. I caught part of a 1 1/2 hr special on PBS last night honoring him. A lot of old clips of his perfomances.

It is being replayed tonight at 8:30 Central on another PBS station. If you were a fan, check your local listings. I know my recorder will be running.

        Hey Don,

        Many thanks,

He was one of a select few guys that was funny and was intelligent. I could listen to him for hours.

He was a genius who changed the way we look at the world around us. He was in fact a philosopher in the guise of a comedian.

His personality could be acerbic and he was always challenging us, which is what a good artist should do. His comment on life and nature:

"I look at it this way... For centuries now, man has done everything he can to destroy, defile, and interfere with nature: clear-cutting forests, strip-mining mountains, poisoning the atmosphere, over-fishing the oceans, polluting the rivers and lakes, destroying wetlands and aquifers... so when nature strikes back, and smacks him on the head and kicks him in the nuts, I enjoy that. I have absolutely no sympathy for human beings whatsoever. None. And no matter what kind of problem humans are facing, whether it's natural or man-made, I always hope it gets worse."

If you weren't offended or uncomfortable by his routines, you just weren't paying attention...
          Jeff

I miss him. I hope that his shows continue to be broadcast because he was one of the greats. I can't help but stop and watch everytime I see him on TV, because every time I get a good laugh - and usually an intelligent view of a topic that is contrary to public opinion. I don't always agree with his view, but it's entertaining.

Watched the whole thing. For all his problems this guy had a razor sharp mind as well as being one of the greatest comics ever! The world lost a treasure when he passed. I for one will miss him greatly.

I thought Johnny Carson was going to have a heart attack in the clip where Carlin did the Hippy Dippy Weather Man!
