Whatever he does or doesn't do, I think the only time the word poor should be used in a sentence with his name is if it's preceded by 'he will never be'.

He's human, surprise surprise! I don't imagine it's easy learning to live in a fishbowl.

Just a poor choice by a very young man. Not the end of his career or anything. Just proves he's human. The stuff probably wasn't any good anyway since he said it won't happen again.

I've only tried it once, and don't plan to again. Of course I've been told I did it wrong the first time if that is the way I feel about it now.

Now I have not smoked dope for decades, but if I did, I would certainly not offer any to Michael Phelps. Never, ever share with a guy with world class lung capacity...

Very good point, about his lung capacity. If it mattered....I wouldn't ever know.

Throw him in jail like the other star athletes who break the law. Or are we double standard? Oops, no swimming pools in the big house. I guess it's better than steroids.

Can't throw him in jail. The evidence went up in smoke.

Can't put him on Riker's Island. He'd just swim to freedom.

Seriously, he made a mistake, he admitted it, let's move on. It's not like he killed someone.

Hey Lee, you have a legal mind. I never thought of that. Excellent cross-examination, no smoking gun or rather,"chillum pipe" in this case

Why do I for some reason,

think of Cheek and Chong. Up in smoke?! The man made a mistake, said he's sorry. Let him move on.

Not a mistake, his track record shows it is a habitual behavior. He was found guilty of drunk driving and drug use in 2004 and sentenced to 18 months probation. He was sorry for that mistake then.
                              Read this:
                              http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/...in654380.shtml
How many "mistakes" should he made before classified as a repeated offender. As a role model to whom many aspiring young olympians and athletes look up to, he is a bad example.
This athlete is an international icon and hero who has accomplished an unprecedented fete - which I think was truly awesome-, yet he is a pot-smoking, drug-using, drunk-driving law breaker.
All I,m saying is, for the media and some others, there is a double standard when it comes to our opinions about certain athletes.
