    Well, since I seemed to have started all this, I'll just say there was nothing offensive intended...mere curiosity.

    I DIY most everything , too, but would never think to make a hammer. There is a point of diminishing returns, even for something abstract like the satisfaction of having done-it-myself. So I wondered if your mallet had something special or peculiar about it, compared to a ready made and inexpensive one.

      Mike, thanks for considering the way responses are made to member posts. I didn't think anything of the response and I had every intention of answering, but by the time I got through the rest of the responses the thought was gone.

      Pecker, sorry for not responding sooner. I'm not some stuck up jerk, just a short memory. I'm not planning on building the hammer yet but it looked like a project that would be fun to do. This is something filed for the near future.
