    The Dreaded Colonoscopy

Since I have been hit with diverticulitus a few times last year, I have a date booked to check out my colon. Pretty soon I will be drinking that lovely stuff to clean me out. I may be camping out by the bathroom this afternoon. Tomorrow is the big day for the test. Wish me luck that they don't find anything major.

Hopefully a report will go back to your boss to his surprise that they didn't find any lead in there.

Good luck with your tests, Richard. If you've never had one, the worst part of the procedure is the "camping trip" the day before. They'll sedate you just before they start, and you'll wake up happy. Trust me.

DEMAND CANDY AND FLOWERS FROM THE DOCTOR, THAT'S THE LEAST THEY CAN DO AFTER TAKING SUCH LIBERTIES!

I took pills last time instead of the 'lovely liquid'. A LOT OF PILLS, 18 within a half hour or something like that. They are large and that's a lot, but you avoid the 'lovely liquid'.

Nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done. Now, if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain't you. You're better than that! -Rocky Balboa-

I've had three of them so far. Although they're not one of my most favorite things to go through they're certainly nothing to be that concerned about. I agree that the day before isn't fun but considering the alternative, in this case, it's much better to be safe than sorry.

Having lived through one, I'll second the idea that the prep is worse than the exam. At least I got a certificate from the Dr. stating he didn't find my head up there.

I've had it done twice. The "camping out" part is the part you want to get over with. But make sure you get cleaned out good. If you don't, a potential problem might be missed. Good luck with the results, and remember the odds are on your side.

Good Luck! Chances are they will not find anything except those cute little indentations that they choose to call diverticula.

Been there, done that with the diverticulitus routine. It is best to make sure there are no other problems. Doc says that I have to have a high fiber diet, and, because of my advanced state of maturity, don't have to go back for 10 years unless something goes wrong.

We all hope everything comes out OK.

                          Regards, Steve

I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease 12 years ago. I think I've had 5 colonoscopies in the last 12 years, and I'll have another in May (and probably every 2-3 years for the rest of my life).

The prep is definitely the worst part. I've gone through at least 3 different prep routines and one is clearly much less of a hassle than the others (the others tend to require you to drink 1+gallons of nasty tasting stuff). I don't remember the name of the "preferred" prep routine, but I'll look it up later. Some doctors have their preferred methods and may not allow you to use the one that I prefer.

                            Good luck!

Here's a link to a Dave Berry comedic description of a colonoscopy - it always cracks me up.

Thanks guys. It's not so much the test that bothers me but the fact that I still get pain just about every day has me concerned that something will be found.

I took two pills last night and that had me awake around 5:30 this morning with massive cramps through my gut. After five or six trips, the cramps finally eased. I have just had the first of two sachet's and now I'm waiting for it all to start again

Well, think I'll go have another bowl of Jello.
