I think I am just grumpy tonight....

Lately there have been a ton of tools posted at WAY over value on craigslist and tonight someone (perhaps me, hehe) decided to post and rant a bit......

    Wow... Relax much???

Glad you got that load off your chest.

You got a couple things at work here, I think. Some people really don't know what their stuff is worth. When they guess high, we think they're crooks, but when they go low, nobody complains. We just go buy it... I also think some people just want some real negotiating room. If you put a $100 item out for $5, I guarantee somebody will try to get you down to $3, and if you put it out for free, somebody will want you to pay them to haul it off... Also, you got a lot of people selling stuff that they really don't want to part with, just to raise cash these days, and they're trying to make the best of it.

That said, most of those examples you used really were way too high. But it only takes one buyer. Caveat emptor...

Jon, if I knew you well I'd give you a raft of good-natured s**t for that post. Maybe you're just cranky from the cold and snow?

I think Uncle Cracker largely has it right. One of the problem with free listings on craigslist is that they can just keep listing stuff over and over again until they get tired of posting or someone buys their stuff. But the same technology that allows listings at no cost also allows smart shoppers to do their homework ahead of time. So smart shoppers get themselves good deals and dumb or lazy shoppers get...no, I think I'll stay clear of that conclusion thanks.

Fire away!! I can take it. If I took things too seriously, I would never put myself out there so publicly.

UC, sometimes I just need to rant. You should hear some of the ones I let off with in person. I could easily give Dennis Miller or George Carlin a run for their money! I keep myself in check around here though. It also helps that everyone here either knows what they are talking about, or tries really hard and means well.

There must be something in the water. I have a friend from Indy who recently sent an email that was a pretty serious flight of fancy. Our mutual friends thought he had spent too much time in the basement. Now with your rant I think it's time for the EPA to step in!

Jon, I'm with you all the way on this, the same thing happens here all the time. I do want to add my pet peave about CL - inconsiderate a$$holes that can't be bothered to remove the items that sell and don't have the common courtesy to respond to an email offer that it has been sold already.

              Jeez guys it is free!

So what do you really expect, rocket science products for chicken plucker prices?

And when have you ever had common courtesy extended at a free anything. Too much time in the snow with nothing to do but watch bad football teams!

I havta agree it's in the water their : more than a fair share of overinflated prices, particularly for the tools section.

In my area, the tools area has been great for real good prices; it's the other areas like household goods that we get the goofy ones.

Or maybe my brain is glossing over the bad ones and just captures the better ones...
