    Web design question

A friend of mine is building a small retail website and is having some problems. He asked me because I have some experience with it but this goes way over my head. He's testing out the site and finds that when he places something in the cart and checks out, the cart is emptied.

He is currently using a Windows based server host but has use Linux scripting. He contacted the hosting company and they said

"Hi, Your have a windows plan which you would need to use CDOSYS and not CDONTS Thank you."

Anyone here (crocket maybe?) give a good explanation of what's going on and what I could suggest for a solution? Thanks

Dunno. I haven't gotten that far with my wife's site yet and it is Linux anyway. Plus the hosting company includes the checkout apps for free. Google says that CDOSYS is the ASP.NET replacement for CDONTS.

Alex Franke and a couple other guys on this site are real programmers. PM them or wait for one of them to answer.

Um... isn't the cart supposed to empty after you check out?

There's not a lot of information to go on here, but my guess is that he's using CDO (not the Collateralized Debt Obligations variety ) for sending mail, and it sounds like this is what's hanging him up. (BTW, the host might have another component altogether for sending mail, so I'd check into that, too. or he could use .Net, which has emailing functionality built in.)

Anyway, CDONT was discontinued a while back, so if he's using CreateObject("CDONT.something-or-other") then he should be using "CDO.something-or-other" instead. That's probably what they're talking about....
