    Arrrrrrgh!

Even though we don't live far from Chicago, I rarely go there. Today I had to pick up one of my sons and his family from the airport. Going up there I got stuck in traffic. And I mean stuck in traffic. One street I had to go on was about 5 miles from the airport when I got on it. About 45 - 50 minutes later, I arrived at the airport. The streets were in good shape. I guess it was last minute shoppers, I don't know.

Their plane was 47 minutes late getting in. After about another hour looking for their luggage, they were told it was lost. When they find it, they'll deliver it to their home.

Fight the traffic again on the way home, but not as bad as going up there. After spending half my day driving, I'm glad to be home.

I hope I never have to go to Chicago again.
The last time I was there was in the dead of winter at O'Hare.
The cargo doors for the airplane froze open so they had to offload everything from the aircraft and find another one. Only took eight additional hours of wait time but we finally were able to leave.

Last time I was in Chicago was

August 1955. And I've not been back in the Windy City since. Twice was enough...

I lived in Chicago or suburbs for most of my life. Now that I live in a quieter part of the state there are many things that I miss but traffic is not one of them.

LOML grew up in Chi town. I on the other hand was a down state resident. Been to and from OHare more times than I want to talk about. We still have In-laws in the NW suburbs, and make the trip every so often. Try to avoid T-day and Christmas.

But I do understand the frustration.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!

I HATE Chicago traffic but need to deal with it when I go down around the lake on my annual summer trek back to MN.

LOML loves the town. We finally got wise and learned to take the Amtrak there for plays and such. Even so, she makes the trip with her Mom or girlfriends 2 or 3 times for every time I accompany her.

Living in an area with no traffic to speak of (unless you count two weeks a year of bewildered Tulip Time visitors) is priceless to me.

I'm in Milwaukee, but fly out of Chicago quite often to save on airfare. O'Hare isn't bad coming in from the north. Midway is a PITA.

Traffic through downtown is a PITA. If you work downtown, it is better to just live downtown.

There are plenty of things in Chicago I've enjoyed seeing, like the museums, Lincoln Park Zoo and such, but there's one thing I can't tolerate: Cubs fans!!

I got to see & meet Gary Sinese in The Miss Firecracker Contest at the Steppenwolf Theatre before he got famous. I forgot to ask if he was a Cubs fan

And yes, O'Hare vacuums Big Time.

That's okay, we hate your arch, your river, your people, your children, your dead, and your city. Cardinals suck!

Otherwise, yes, traffic to the two airports stinks. Great city otherwise.

My company routinely does trade shows at McCormick Place in downtown Chicago. I used to fight the traffic until I learned that the CTA is my friend. I now take the short walk to the subway station at O'Hare and take the Blue Line downtown to my hotel. Worth every nickel of the $1.75 just in saved aggravation!

Chicago is in my top 3 as far as great cities. Fantastic downtown area!

I lived in the Southwest Suburbs of Chicago most of my life and worked in the city for 36 years chasing trains across town as Railroad Cop. I don't miss the traffic at all but I sure miss the good food to be had in the Windy City.
