Yup. There is a guy on my team at work that does it with his kids. He says they like it a lot. I understand there are geocaches most everywhere in the country so when they go visit relatives or whatever they will go geochaching there as well.

I've heard of it but have never done it. It looks like a lot of fun!

On the other hand, i dont think they would understand when they open my cache and see a freud tk blade in it!

I've wanted to do it, but I don't have a GPS so I'd have to rely on google maps to find it. Could make for a lot of fun.

We haven't tried geocaching -- we're not that high-tech. But we have dome some letterboxing, which is very similar, but low-tech and far more old fashioned.

If you don't have a GPS receiver, you might want to check letterboxing out as an alternative. Here's the site we've referenced: http://www.atlasquest.com/

It's amazing what you can learn on a woodworking site.

About two years ago, I helped a fellow from Tasmania in the Tokyo area. He was here for a business meeting that I was attending, so we spent a couple of hours looking. He was excited about it.

My daughter in Arkansas likes doing that with her family. My daughter in Texas is interested in it. I personally would prefer metal detectors, if I had time after a little flat work or pen turning.

It sounds a lot like what I do when trying to find the tools I have just set down in the shop
Often in error - Never in doubt

When you put something down, just enter the info into your GPS. It won't take long to find it when you need it. Using this technique, you'll never have to be organized again.

A good friend has 700+ and over 50 First to Find. I did it once with him. That was enough.

It would be a very big black hole of time for me.

I've done a bit of it, just locally, but am about to get a little more involved.

On a side-note.....it's not my main geocaching GPS, but you CAN download coordinates from the Geocaching website directly into a Streetpilot 550C and get pretty darned close. Just thought I'd give it a try & it worked fairly well.

All geocachers are crazy. We went out in -40 wind chill weather to nab an earth cache for a local winter challenge. Went to Rona (Canadian borg) to buy a 5 gallon pail with lid for a LARGE cache for the same challenge. I plan to show up at Best Buy on Boxing Day to pick up a netbook to take caching so that we can enter finds as soon as we can get to a wireless network.

Yes, it is a Black Hole time sucker of a hobby - but it is getting a couple of near 60 year olds out of the house and at the top of more than a few river valley hills.

Check out brulin at geocaching.com if you want a picture of me freezing essential parts off!!
