    Rest in Peace, Bettie!

Betty Mae Page (Bettie) died yesterday at the age of 85 of pneumonia but she had suffered a heart attack nine days ago while hospitalized and never regained consiousness.

The old timers around here will remember Bettie, most of us fondly!

For the younger members, Bettie had a brief modeling career from 1950 to 1957 and became one of the most (in)famous of the 'pin-up' girls. (She was Miss January 1955 in the fledgling Playboy magazine.) After that, she disappeared from the public eye for many years.

A bit of reading tonight turned up some interesting things. Most surprising to me was that she had a BA in education and even returned to school to work toward her Masters. During her years of annonimity she found religion and worked with several evagilist, including Billy Graham. She had completely divorced herself from her former public life and had no idea of the impact she had on the sexual revolution of the 60's.

I saw that on the news tonight. Don't know why, but I don't remember her. Finishing high school in 1955, you'd think I would remember.

Only for a short time. Said she had problems controlling her students, especially the boys. For some reason, they had trouble concentrating on their studies.

She could have been the most successful teachers in history... Just think of all the HS boys standing in line to sign up for her class!

I doubt they'd get any work done though.

I'd never heard of this lady, but I looked her up online and all I can say is "Wow!" That was a proper woman-shaped woman, if ever there was one.

Yep. I remember Bettie - saw her pin-up posters as a teen. I didn't realize she was still alive (until now of course). Quite a career she gave up.

After reading Ray and chopnhack's responses I feel satified knowing I introduced a bit of 'culture' into your lives.

The picture of her wearing a Santa hat, decorating the tree, was probably the best known of her shots.

Surfers use the term 'betty' to describe a 'hot chick'.

S'posed to have originated in California in the late 50's.

I'll bet that Mamie Eisenhower wasn't too pleased to see her signature bangs on a pin-up girl!

You might think I haven't contributed much to the world, but a large number
of the warning labels on tools can be traced back to things I've done...
