    Celebrate December 5th!

On Friday, please hoist an adult beverage or three in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the repeal of the 18th Amendment.

The 18th amendment to the constitution banned all alcohol sales.

This “prohibition” lasted for 13 years, from 1920 – 1933. The 21st amendment was enacted on December 5th 1933 and repealed the 18th amendment.

The 21st amendment is the only amendment to the constitution that specifically repeals another amendment.

BTW, Prohibition was brought to you by yet another idiot from Minnesota, Representative Andrew Volstead.

You might think I haven't contributed much to the world, but a large number
of the warning labels on tools can be traced back to things I've done...

Did it REALLY ban all alcohol sales, or just drinking alcohol?

Germdoc or the like, have you ever read about things like rubbing alcohol or other disinfectants being not available during prohibition?

Section 1. After one year from the ratification of this article the manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors within, the importation thereof into, or the exportation thereof from the United States and all territory subject to the jurisdiction thereof for beverage purposes is hereby prohibited.
Section 2. The Congress and the several States shall have concurrent power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
Section 3. This article shall be inoperative unless it shall have been ratified as an amendment to the Constitution by the legislatures of the several States, as provided in the Constitution, within seven years from the date of the submission hereof to the States by the Congress.
What's an "intoxicating liquor"? See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volstead_Act

Yup, all forms of intoxicating alcohol, beer, wine, and liquor. Pharmacists could fill prescriptions for medicinal liquor. Five bucks to bribe a doctor plus the price of the hooch.

The 18th Amendment was the catalyst for people like Al Capone to make it rich. Joe Kennedy (JFK's dad) did pretty good, too.

Must be the cold in this part of the country that brings the nuts out of the woodwork and causes people to put said nuts into office. Look at Proxmire from next door in Wisconsin. Another grandstanding fool.
