OK Folks - WHERE to publish photos????

The site I used to pub my shop projects went under, so I am looking for a new site.

    Requirements:

    1. FREE

    2. Either unlimited storage or at least MANY gigs

    3. Been around for a long time - I get tired of choosing a site that lasts a few years

    4. Relatively easy to use. I'm not a computer novice but I don't want to spend many minutes per photo

    5. MUST also accept JPG AND videos

    Suggestions???????

    Photobucket.com

"Keep all your pics and videos in one place - room for up to 10,000 photos and hours of video! For free."

    Works for me.

I use Picasa 3. Not unlimited, but a lot.

Also, Flickr seems to be very popular.

I've used photobucket for years. I like them better then flickr, the interface is simpler.

In photo hosting, you do get waht you pay for. I understand wanting free, but I found all of the free sites to be limiting. Picassa supported only 1GB of photos when I tried it. photobucket is probably the best of the free sites, but the browsing interface is not nice, and it does not handle resizing images for posting to other sites (at least, not that I know of). As much as I like free, I have to say that paying a little money for SmugMug is the best choice that I have made for photo sharing. And it can be free if you refer enough people (well, you need to pay for the first year). But, video masy only be available for the higher level accounts. Smugmug is a well run family business with top notch customer service and great features, many people find the yearly fee to be worthwhile over the free alternatives.

The reasons I use Picasa are

            1. It starts as a desktop app; very intuitive way of organizing/managing my pics on my HDD; even handling importing pics from my camera(s) seamlessly - simply attach the camera and it recognizes it. No other software needed.

            2. Their search is famously fast, and it allows video and even editing of videos!

            3. Web account linked to my gmail account. I am using my gmail account(s) exclusive to other email ids of mine from yore, and find the easy link to the web photo albums very convenient. (available as a link at the top of the gmail screen).

            4. Allows easy sharing of pics in varying sizes from the same original size/pic. Allows tagging/labeling. Allows linking to albums from others. Automatic notification when their albums update.

            5. Very easy way of uploading from desktop app to web account - select pics and click web-album. (this is the only place I have one problem - I am unable to do this from work, as picasa does not allow any proxy server; so if i want to upload when at work, i need to use their web interface : login to my gmail account, and upload by browsing my local HDD).

The size is limited to 1GB but i am not sure i'm gonna go over that very soon. Maybe at that point I could create another account, or pay addtional money to upgrade ($20 for 10gb, $75 for 40gb,...)

They do allow 'creative commons' and too many other features I have not used as yet.

I checked Smugmug too just now; I have appreciated it's slick appearance and all. Annual cost of $40 for a basic account and $60 for videos seems to be pretty reasonable, particularly for the unlimited option, and to allow for the ability to sell your pics. I do wonder what y'all (who use smugmug) use for managing pics on your machine.

            Hope that helps.

I personally use Picasa, although there is integration with other programs as well (I think Adobe bridge and iPhoto for example). There is a free Picasa smugmug uploader available. Unfortunately, to sell pics for a profit requires the pro account, which is more money.
