  • A Misconception About Pot Bellies

I don't have a pot belly (yet), but here's my thoughts. It could be that getting up in age is benefited by having a pot belly.

Just think about the balance of the body. Our heels are round, and there is no real resistance to falling over backward. So, maybe the pot belly is designed to be a counter-balance.

    Whaddya think?

I think about that guy in the video you posted a while ago and resolve to get rid of my spare tire. That way I'll look a little better in my birthday suit

Yes, you are absolutely correct! That is why I 'grew' mine. Now if we can just bring the general populace to understand.... Physics rules!

No, its a sign of nobility.

I suppose your argument about balance might be right, but I have long thought mine was a symbol of wealth and power. After all, a certain heft was historically associate with kings and noblemen. It was the poor peasants that were skinny!

I don't have much of a pot belly. But I'm not a very big guy, so I guess it's not needed (lower center of gravity).

            Uhhhhh, OK.

And the reason I went bald was to provide better cooling in the summer?

LOL, I'm glad I am not storing my wealth! But I have to admit I am not as trim as I was when I was more physically active. I still sport the better part of a six pack though!
+1 on new resolve and darn you cabman for ruining a great pigout meal!

Aww, heck, man. I skipped the 6 pack and went straight for the keg.

I asked my doctor once about mine. He asked if my dad had one. "Yes, a beauty," I said.
"How about your uncles on your father's side?"
"Yep, every one has a belly, and some of them are whoppers."
"Well," he said, "you can make it smaller, but it won't ever go completely away--I'm afraid you have a genetic predisposition."

So I figured why fight it? You don't get a physique like mine without working at it 24/7.
