    Dishwasher problem

I have a dishwasher I got from my future son-in-law, that has never been used, but is about 2 years old. Somehow in storage, it has been damaged. it has a crack and a small hole on the side up high inside the dishwasher. This is a plastic lined dishwasher, and although I could buy a new one, I would like to hide the fact that there is a problem with it, so as not to hurt his feelings, and he could use the money, but wouldn't let me just give him some money. I didn't see the crack until this was already installed.

So, what I am looking for is some suggestions as to how to repair it. I have thought of "Plumbing Goop", but when I read the label,it said it was non-food safe, and that warm water might affect it. I have thought of silicon caulking, and epoxy glue, but I thought there might be some good suggestions here. As I said it is high up almost to the very top on one side, so there won't be any standing water, or high pressure, just water from the washing jets splashing on it.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I would use the putty type epoxy and put it on the same way you put body filler on a hole in a fender. Or if you want to get fancy, get a crack repair kit for a Corvette.

      dishwasher problem

I would suggest that you do a good surface prep by sanding and cleaning the area thoroughly. After the cleaning, I would use a good quality 2 part
epoxy (one with a 15 minute open time is best) apply it generously over the damaged area and let it dry completely. After that check for proper adhesion to the surface and make sure it is thoroughly cured and it should be ready
      for use. eezlock

There is a material that is used for repair of plastic tubs/showers that may be what you need. You should be able to find a repair service in the yellow pages and they may sell you the amount that you need.

Thanks Roger. I have already purchased and installed the epoxy. I was going to use the liquid type, but discoverd what I bought was grey. I also purchased the putty type, so I used it, It was off white. I think it will hold. If not, I will try your suggestion. I never thought of that one.

Do you have any RV dealers or camping stores in your area - such as CampingWorld? Cracks in the plastic "holding tanks" are common on the RVs... and replacement tanks are mucho expensive and very costly on labor too - most are buried so far inside the RV that you have to do major surgery to the rig to remove the tank. So there are lots of specialized plastic sealers that are safe for drinking water tanks and hot water tanks.

Thanks MPC! I used the epoxy putty and it is holding right now. That is a great suggestion, and I do have a dealer about 10 miles away. I might check that out if the putty fails.
