Any dog that attacks my little girl will be dead before I let go of it. No waiting around for the deputies.

That was their thought too, but easier said then done. WOW! They did try subduing/killing the dog with an aluminum bat, but the cops had to shoot it. I guess they couldn't make a good hit while the guy had it in a headlock.

Sad story for all involved. Wonder if the neighbors even knew there was a dog there, as it was only there week.

My little girls' well-being takes precedence. If the dog is no longer a danger to her (meaning he is locked up somewhere or she is removed from the situation) then I will let somebody else handle the dog and I will go do whatever is necessary for my daughter. If she has to go to the hospital or whatever I'm going with her, whether or not the dog is dead.

My neighbor's pit bull dug its way into my backyard and killed my wife's cocker spaniel for the food in its dish. I came upon the scene as it had the poor thing in its mouth, tearing it apart. I grabbed a 4-foot piece of 2x6 and broke the pit's back, then confronted my neighbor at his door, assuring him of a similar fate if any of his other dogs so much as farted. He put his house on the market that same week.

You're absolutely right and I'd do the same thing. There's just something so visceral to me about an animal attack on a child, especially knowing that many children trust an animal in a home or neighborhood setting.

                Nasty breeds

I know there are several that claim "its not the dog, its the owner." But the common denominator is usually the fact that the dog is a notorious breed.
pits, rots, and I have even heard boxers can have mean streaks, or tend to be a bit more unstable, and turn on humans.
When my cousin was two she was attacked by a neighbors dog, she had her face severely lacerated. Fortunately she was young enough not to remember the many surgeries after to put her cheek back in place, but the scars will always remain.
There was a little boy killed in his own home by their familys pitbull in minneapolis mn last year.
Very unfortunate, but I am happy to see that dad was within helping distance.
