That's what I call him. To find out why, you'll have to read on. He was a high school buddy I hung out with, same clubs, played sports and double dated. We had to use my car because it had a back seat. He had an MGA. We didn't date the same girls though. My dates seemed to prefer good looking guys.

When we graduated high school, we got separated...we went to different colleges. We stayed in touch. We both went into the Army about the same time. He got accepted into the Army Rangers, I got accepted into Special Forces. He was going to make the Army a career, and did two tours in Vietnam. We stayed in touch as best as we could under the circumstances, and compared notes.

At about the same time we both got out of the Army and we both had the opportunity to do some mercenary work. He tried that for about a year. We stayed in touch and convinced me it wasn't worth the risk.

He was my stand-up witness for my divorce in the early 70's, and stuck around our old neighborhood while interviewing for a job. He took a suit job in a big corporation out of state. I had a cabinet shop, and we stayed in touch.

In the late 70's, I went on vacation on my bike and toured some of the country, and stayed with him and his wife for several days and had a great time.

When we both got somewhat computer literate, we emailed regularly. He would visit here every few years and we would get together and shoot the bull. As for why I call him "Ofer", when he got out of the Army, he was a Major (O-4). I don't hold his officership against him. But we do argue about which Army group is better.

And, tonight is boys night out. I'm pickin' him up at the airport this afternoon, as he's flying out to South America this weekend. Lookin' forward to a wild evening...maybe check out those ladies that do creative dancing.

Anyway, just thought I'd share this useless information...thanks for listening.

Hey,man, you've gotta stay close to your real buddies. I regret losing track of several guys from school and often wonder what's going on with them.

Hoist a couple to old friends and great times.

I have one buddy from high school I keep in touch with. He's the one who gave me my nickname. He was in town for a couple days while we were in college. I went from work to the restaurant and had taken off my tie and unbuttoned my shirt. It only took once.
