    Scanning Documents????

I use a HP5200 if it matters, XP home, have Adobe Acrobat Reader 9, Word 2007 plus other programs. What I am wanting to do is scan pages and save as file type .doc or .docx both of which are Word compatible. Currently when I scan anything it becomes an image .pdf. Since I just have the reader I can not copy paste or even edit. Anyone know how to change this?

Mark, I'm not familiar with your model but we have two HP all-in-ones that scan, fax and print. There should be applications in the bundled software (OCR, or optical character reader) that read a scanned document and attempt to turn it into text. If the page is clear, they're pretty good. If the page is smudged, torn, wrinkled, or has really small type, YMMV.

You'll probably need to read the directions because HP has released several versions of its software applications and I doubt the specifics for my machine will be any help.

You probably have a switch somewhere to scan "image" or "OCR". This is in the setup options.

You can buy SW that will convert PDF to .doc files. If it is a one-time thing email me the file and I can export it to Word. I have Adobe Acrobat.
