Around 5 o'clock this morning, one of our boys was knocking on our door. He has a small business, and he keeps all his tools and job related things in the garage. At around 2 o'clock this morning, one of his dogs woke them up. Their garage was totally engulfed in flames. He lost his truck and all tools and supplies, with the exception of a metal bending brake, which was left on a job.
I haven't talked to him yet about his insurance, but his brother told me he only had $1000.00 coverage on tools. If that's true, I'm sure he thought he had enough to cover a loss like this. I'm not sure what his tools cost, but I'd guess it would be somewhere around $20,000.00.
The garage was a total loss, as was his truck. He had propane tanks in there for use with rubber roofing. His home had much less damage. Part of the siding was melted, soffit and fascia was ruined, and some roof damage. Now they have water damage from the fire trucks. They lost electrical service, and it can't be restored until the place is inspected by the town. Getting out of the house in the middle of the night with no electricity wasn't easy, but they made it.
There is a bright side to it. He is married, with 2 kids and 3 dogs. None of them were hurt. Thank God he had the dogs because his home would almost certainly have had much worse damage, and someone might have lost their life.
