    How safe is it?

I just viewed the thread where MilDoc asked for recommendations for a software program. Mr. Bill told of a site where you can download the free program of the day at http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/ . Do you guys feel comfortable downloading programs like this, or do you think they might contain malware? The reason I ask is because it seems to be offering a program today that I would use quite often. But I'm a little concerned about downloading it.

Download the free version of McAfee SiteAdvisor. It will give you a warning before you open up a site, or do downloads. There's a version for Firefox or IE.

I've used several, without any problems, or hint of any malware. It's a very popular site, although the software, in many cases, is not very well known.

The downside is that if you have a problem that requires a re-install, they will all have expired because you must activate them on the day. Any later try will result in an "expired" notice, AFAIA.

Ed, I'm glad that I was able to help. I have downloaded software from that site and have had no problems with it. AVG scanned and it passed. It is a one time installation during the giveaway period tho.

The places that I would be careful of are the Warez sites with pirated software.

NoteFrog looks interesting and I think I'll give it a try.
