    Lost in Space

Not really lost in space, but lost in the beauty of space. When I was growing up, I honestly believed we would all, or at least our children, would have the opportunity to travel to space. I was enamored with the space program and even skipped a party so I was able to watch the moon landing. Well, needless to say, things did not turn out like that. But the space pioneers are still hard at it. Maybe my Grandson's or their children (sigh). The pictures are still awe inspiring.

What’s it like to hang in space and fix the Hubble Space Telescope? Retired astronaut Story Musgrave tells the story.

We will not have a viable space visiting program, IMHO, until the space elevator concept, becomes a reality.

Until then, your looking at these personal spaceship ventures, with high dollar tickets, that only get you to the edge of space, in part due to too many resources getting used up, if they tried docking/staying at the space station.

As long as the government has control of the space program and congress keeps strangling NASA, things aren't going to change. Pushing 40 years since we first set foot on the moon and we can't even do that any more? It's embarrassing.

As for those who talk about "wasting money in space" — look at all the technology that we enjoy today and consider how much of that is thanks to the space program.

I understand the argument, from the human's in space verses using today's computers and robots for space argument. I think we would excel more in space with people, if we solved some of our people/government issues on this planet first. THEN we could make it a human endeavor to go out into space.

Right now a lot of the technology is still used to aim weapons at one another. A freinds grandfather was one of the ones brought over from Germany, that helped to do that.
