I didn't have 4Gb until earlier this month. I put up with only 512Mb for 3 or 4 years. And yes, XP home only sees 3.7Gb. The way the Dell needs the slots filled combined with the fact the the BOIS can only see 4Gb anyhow combined with the pricing structure at Crucial led me to stuff 4Gb in a machine that can only see 3.7Gb

Does this have onboard video? (that could account for part of the ram)
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

It does have onboard video but it is disabled in favor of an ATI Radeon with 128Mb.

I don't remember for sure but think I lose the 300Mb due to XP home. There was such a HUGE improvement over the original 512Mb that I haven't wondered too much about were it went.

With a memory usage monitor running in the tray, I had between 150 and 350 Mb free at any given time.

Just clicking print in Corel Draw would drop it to 0 for half a minute or more. You can imagine what that does to processing time.

Now all I need to do is find and kill the process that starts the install for Fiction Book Designer/Book Designer 4.0 each time I fire up Quickbooks.
