    Thanks for your help

A special thanks to all of you who report the Spam.

I/we appreciate it very much, and we all try to keep it cleaned. With me being on this side of the ocean and 3 of the 4 times zones in the US with a watchman, it does give us a broader range for checking. But it seems like Lee usually gets up and checks about the time I return home in the evening, so we overlap some.

We don't always get to jump on it immediately due to work schedules, but we do get to it as fast as we can. Thanks for the notifications. My email pings, and when I do "hear it", I check it, and then the forum.

    Thanks again for your help.

Hank, you and Lee surely are quick on the draw. Most of the time when I see the messages in my inbox alerting me to reported spam one of you has already dealt with it.

We definitely seem to be a target lately. That garbage has no business here. Anybody giving some consideration to a waiting period for new members before they can post? This or some other sort of limitation might clean it up. Perhaps a more detailed questionnaire about woodworking interests or something similar might do the trick. Spammers and bots will rarely go to the trouble if the sign-up is anything more than a formality.

There is a waiting period already. Actually each new member has to be approved by an administrator and there is a minimum post requirement before you can create new threads. However evidently there is a bug in Vbulletin that the spammers are exploiting.

Thanks to all that have been reporting these bad posts. We have added some safeguards since the 1st of October. We are able catch most before they post. I have been banning and deleting new member accounts at a pace of around 25 per day since then. Still some have made it through. I sincerely appreciate everyones efforts to quelch these topics and posts that have no business being here.

These spammers and their bots have found a way around some of the safeguards. I believe that Sam has started IP banning for some of the bots, but am not sure.

Final answer is for members to keep doing what they are doing and the Mods will whack these faster than even I can find them. Hats off to Lee, Hank, and David for their tireless efforts in keeping this a family friendly forum.

You guys will have outstanding scores and get to play in the bonus round at the rate you "whack these trolls".

If there is a best way to report the trolls (other than the little sign) let us know. At least I would be glad to help.

Thanks to all you Moderators for

doing a great job. These spammers and porn peddlers are low lifes that can make a great site turn into a dump. Appreciate you guys going the extral distance to keep that stuff out of here.

I see spammers on multiple boards I visit. The worst ones, are ones where they either start out as an actual user account that gets hacked (and the user then loses their account), or they intentionally set it up, ask a few things, then start spamming (typically you start seeing jokes with spam in them).

I don't know WHY you are thanking us. I consider it a responsibility to notify of the spam. You guys deserve the thanks, for taking the non paying job, and dealing with it (as well as us when we start acting like children).

                      Thank YOU guys.
