Not trying to take away from C-Mans post, but it made me think of when SWMBO was hit a couple of weeks ago. It was only a small bump when the young guy misjudged his stopping distance and "tapped" the back of our SUV. LOML was going to make a big deal of it but when she saw a perfect imprint of my class 3 Reese receiver in the hood of his little hopped up import( with no damage to our vehicle) she just let it slide. Figured it was a lesson well learned.

I used to own a Ford Ranger. It had steel bumpers painted flat black. I drove it for 2 years and for some reason it got hit a lot. I think it was 5 times. Tally was 2 tail lights, 1 headlight, 1 grille and 1 radiator, all on the other cars. My truck got a scratch or two.David

I haven't hit, or been hit by, another vehicle since I bought my Ram.* I have seen a number of accidents involving Rams, Silverados, and F-150's against smaller vehicles.* The smaller vehicles, in every case, lost big time. Even at the cost of fuel, I like the idea of being wrapped in nearly 3 tons of steel.

Ah yes the tailender thread. Heres my stories none of which involve me or my vehicles.
1st up we have my employers wife who usually drives a large SUV the poor woman has been hit 6 times in the last 5 years all the fault of the other drivers. The rear bumpers and plastic clips were replaced all 6 times.(man that was tough to keep clean).
Next up is my fathers lime green 1969 Dodge pickup truck. He bought the truck new back then and had not had the thing more than a week. He went up to the local supermarket and parked out beyond anyone else by about 6 or 7 slots. While he was sitting in the truck some idiot (yes it was a woman) pulled up next to him and slammed open her door right into the passenger side door of the truck putting a nice big knick in the paint and a small dent. Flash forward 2 years same truck same store parking lot. He goes into the store and when he comes out the rear bumper is bent out on one side by about 10 inches or so. Someone elses bumper caught his and bent it out. The other driver took off. He just backup to a cement light tower piling and pushed it back in (kinking it in the process).
Wow same truck 6 months after the bent bumper someone clobbers him in the rear this time bumper is toast. His solution custom make a 8 inch wide channel iron bumper paint it white and bolt it on.
