Hey computer gurus... I CAN"T BELIEVE I can't find this setting...

OK, I use Outlook (full MSO '03 version on XP Pro) for e-mails, and recently my outgoing message composition window has been opening up in full-screen mode, rather than the scaled-down window size that the program itself and all other assorted windows within still use. It used to be the same for all, but no more. I have tried every preference setting I can find, and have re-sized before closing, but to no avail. I CANNOT locate anything that puts me back into windowed screen mode when starting up outgoing messages. What the heck am I missing?

I think it remembers the last setting -- so if you open up a new message, change the window state to normal, then close it, does it open up correctly the next time?

Edit: Whoops, looks like you already tried that. Interestingly it works for me, though. You can also set window state on shortcuts, but I don't think that could help you here...

As a matter of fact, I do that every time I use the program... And it worked fine for me too, until about a month ago, when it started coming up on its own in full screen (not the whole program or incoming message or reply windows, but just the outgoing message composition window... weird...).

I use Outlook 2003 in XP Pro. I just ran through this problem and found the resizing before closing thing worked. Here's what I did.

ctl-n for new email message. It came up in full screen mode.
Resize window using resizing icon in the upper right corner.
Close window using the X icon in the upper right corner (I have not entered any text nor email addys).
Outlook asks me "Do you want to save changes?" I click yes. Window closes.
ctl-n for new email message. New window appears in diminished size.

            HTH,

Thanks for the idea JR. I had not thought to close an empty message. Unfortunately, this did not get me there... Re-opening the composition window does result in the properly re-sized window if I have not exited Outlook, but if I go all the way out and start Outlook up again, the full-screen composition window returns... One thing that I get different from you is that, when I go to close the empty email message, it does not ask "Do you want to save changes?", it just closes. I have to type in at least a space to get the "save changes" message, and even if I do, the window is full-sized again after I leave Outlook and re-enter. This thing is startin' to creep me out...
