A Different Trailer

I have seen a lot of trailers made from pick-up beds. In fact, I have one in the planning to match my '65 Chevy. This guy took things a step or 2 further!

Found on the Austin Craigslist:

Unfinished Home Made enclosed trailer, uses the front end, gutted cab, rear fenders and tailgate, really would be a neat business or motorcycle trailer. front wheels crank up for towing the tow bar is removable looks like and crappy old trunk when parked, have the windshield for it. A+ for imagination and creativity. A+ for recylling instead of sending it to the scrapyard (where it gets recycled anyway).

But with gas prices where they are, I think I'd have something that's smaller and lighter.

Looks like he spent a lot time and energy wasted, taking a good street rod project truck and turning it into a worthless piece of scrap iron! Some people don't seem to know the value of vintage street rod iron these days.

I agree with Ezelock. What a waste. The old Panel truck are hard to come by. Bukt there is still enough there to make a good project if you have time and money. You could make a Retro Rod with the modern running gear and interior.

Four or five years ago I would have tried to buy that truck and use late model
running gear (front to back) and built a really nice street rod with that original straight sheet metal. I had a pickup of that same vintage years ago,
and had a hard time trying to find good straight decent sheetmetal...it was almost impossible then.That is why I get upset when I see how mindless some people are, when they ruin something that is so hard to come by for someone else! eezlock

I dunno, might still be salvageable as a street rod, he still has the windshield... I do agree there are much more efficient ways to make an enclosed trailer.

In term of use as a trailer, doesn't the placement of the load-bearing axle put an awful lot of the load on the tongue? I don't haul with a trailer but isn't that an inventive but poor way of making a trailer? Which, all throws back to it would be a better rod. Interesting find, Pappy. We don't see much intact old iron up north.

OK that thing is scary..

Even with the engine/trans removed I'll bet it's pushing 3,000 lbs empty.
It's a 1/2 ton chassis so it'll haul 1,500 lbs at best and the tongue weight will be huge.
I doubt he setup any trailer brakes either. Plan to spend another $500 for a electric over hydro brake unit.

I don't like the little 2x2 box steel beam he used for a tongue either..

Still looks like a good body for $800.. Drop it on a late model chassis and add $10,000 in parts and paint
