    Anyone used toner/ink refill services?

There's a Cartridge World franchise (http://www.cartridgeworldusa.com/) down the road a bit and I was considering giving them a try when my laser printer toner runs out -- or maybe even for the inkjet.

Anyone ever used a service like this? Any comments on them?

We've used the Walgreen's refill service for our HP cartridges. The 2nd refill can be 'iffy'. HP seems to have a way of sabotaging refills (my opinion).

Walgreen's is always good about it and gives a good discount on a replacement or money back if necessary.

of the warning labels on tools can be traced back to things I've done...

I have a bag full of HP refills from Cartridge World.

They have been excellent. AS said above some times the printer will not recognize the cartridge and tells you it is empty just after installation.

Seems to me they were about 2/3 the best price I could find, with out ordering a semi load,

I tried it, with mixed results. Since the failures always seemed to happen when I could least tolerate it, and since I really don't use enough ink to justify, I've since gone back to new OEM cartridges...

I just found out about Continuous Ink Systems (CIS). Looks like a viable cost effective alternative for some printers. Has anyone used them?

I've used Walgreen's refills, but they don't re-set the chip. So it always reads empty. I think some other places can re-set the chip to give you a good indication of the amount of ink left in the cartridge. One thing to take into consideration is if using a third party refill will void the warranty.

I got tired of all the garbage with ink and bought a new Kodak ESP-3 printer. It $99.00 at Waly world and black ink is $10.00 and color $15.00. I didn't buy it for Pictures but just because my wife runs the ink out so fast.

she prints out recipe's from her cooking shows and online cooking sites.

If you look at the difference in printing with it, its a no brain.

If you do specialty printing then it is probably a different story.

I had no idea Walgreen's offered this service... thanks for the tip!

Haven't used it myself, but a co-worker who does a lot of color printing speaks very highly of it.

I thought so, too, but according the the Cartridge World site, "The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act prohibits the manufacturer of the printer you are using from voiding the warranty because you use a refilled or remanufactured cartridge." Granted, they have a product to sell -- I'll have to go look up that act.

I have been using InkSell for a few years and have been very satisfied with them. Had a bad cartridge once and they sent one right out and paid shipping both ways. Key is for free shipping you will need to get on their e-mail list so you will have the "code" for that month.

One other thing to take into consideration, if you want longevity of photos, is the combination of the ink and the paper you use. It does make a difference. I think you can find useful information about longevity of prints at http://www.wilhelm-research.com/ .

I haven't read it, but I'm of the understanding that if they can definitely say the third party ink caused the problem, they can void the warranty. Mind you, I'm not saying that is the case, it's just my understanding. If you find out differently, let us know.
