    Airplane crash

About eight or nine years ago there was a plane that landed and then skidded off the runway in Las Vegas. The landing gear collapsed and the plane went thru the fence at the end of the runway and came to stop at a gas station. I wonder if anybody has any more information about it.

I agree with Tom. That looks like either the Southwest accident at Burbank or a similar accident at Midway airport in Chicago. Both have very short runways and are somewhat more difficult for landing commercial jets than larger airports like Las Vegas.

I think it's the Burbank crash. It originated in LV. You could search the NTSB site for further info.

That looks more like the Chicago accident. If I remember right some one on the ground was killed. It also look like snow or slush near the plane. Could be wrong.

The Chicago accident was more recent, the plane would be the newer purple/red/orange colors.

Edit: this was the Burbank accident

Someone shudda informed the pilot that yes... fuel at that station was a bit cheaper.... but that ain't the best possibly way of fueling up.....

I live 5 miles away from Burbank Airport - that sure looks like the Chevron station across the street. As I remember the pilot landed the plane hot - Burbank does not have long runways - and the plane crashed thru the fence at the end of the runway ending up on Hollywood Way.

A couple of side notes about this - I saw an interview with the cashier in the Chevron across the street. Imagine looking out the window of the booth and seeing a 737 bearing down on you! At least he had the presence of mind to hit the emergency switch to shut down the pumps before he bailed.

The pilot and copilot apparently had no good reason for the crash as they were suspended without pay and then fired after the NTSB ruling.

The plane was a complete loss - they dragged it back onto the other end of the airport and left it there for several months - I used to drive past it every time I went to the local Costco. I guess Southwest was wrangling with the insurance company over the payout.

The pilots were very negligent though. Even with a dry runway the plane would have caught fire trying to stop it fast enough.
