I'm thinking of getting one or something like it, but I'm a little concerned that a motor driven by two C batteries is no match for my 100lb black lab's nails.

Maybe a Rotozip would work better.

My dogs would be even less likely to sit still for a buzzing, humming motor than they are now for regular clippers.

I figured that since I get about ten PediPaw spam emails per day it must be has good as ColonCleanse so I decided to pass.

That and my Chow / Lab mix would probably rip my arm off if I came near her with that thing.

I have to take mine to the vet and it takes three assistants to hold him down to get his nails trimmed. Like others say, this would not work out.

This device does not seem to solve the problem inherent in clipping a dog's nails, particularly those with black claws. How do you avoid cutting/grinding into the quick.

The instructions just tell you to keep checking so that you don't grind into the quick. Just saying that, sends chills up and down my spine. Having had brief run ins with a grinder and a sanding belt, I would personally prefer the clipper.

I worked in a vet's office when I was in high school. Even he sometimes cut into the quick. We always had silver nitrate sticks to stop the bleeding.

Frequently taking the tips off is the best remedy for me, emphasis on frequently. Frequent clipping makes the quick recede a little. Conversely, failure to clip makes the quick grow out further, exacerbating the problem.

Ever try a dremel with a sanding drum on it? Highly reccommended by greyhound people. Doesn't eliminate the possibility of hitting the quick on a black claw. But, it heats up the claw (pedipaw would too) so you only go for a couple seconds at a time.

My wife used a Dremel with a sanding drum for years on our Alaskan Malamutes. The she tried this one: http://www.peticure.com/ She likes it better than just the sanding drum. However their motor/rechargeable batteries are not that good, so if we were to do it again we'd just get the attachment and use it on a Dremel (I think they have one that fits a Dremel).

My son uses a drill with a sanding drum on his 100 lb. black lab. Dog didn't like it at first, but got used to it and it did a great job.

My wife cut into the quick a time or two too many. We switched to the Dremel with the sanding drum. I got it when I needed something to get me over the top for one of amazon's promotions. Takes a little longer but no blood. The Pedipaws looks like a low end Dremel with built in stop blocks.

We have two large German Shepherds, and three cats. That's a lot of nails. We thought about getting one of those. If it's anything like that long hose vacuum deal, where the ad says the animal can't hear the noise, maybe they just drug the animal for the commercial. Our dogs try to eat a vacuum cleaner. We have no idea what their response would be to a buzzing on their nails.

We just use a clipper frequently like Steve does, and hum lullabies while clipping.

Our Rottweiler, Big Dog, doesn't mind the noise.

The dremel with an attacted sanding drum works great. Every time we start the vacuum cleaner or the dremel, he comes over to us and wants to be vacuumed or have his nails done!!
After cutting into the quick one time, I broke out the aforesaid tool and found it works. You just have to get your pet to except the humming; and a good ol' stake bone works wonders in it's self.....

Just another vote for the Dremel tool. Two of our dogs never seemed to mind it, and one never got used to it. But if you *can* use it, it works great. As mentioned already, it does heat up the nail, so go slow. As far as cutting the quick goes, AFAIK, anything that will cut the nail has the same risk. I use "Kwik-Stop" gel. Works great, although I've never *had* to use it while trimming with the Dremel...Only with the clipper.

Seems like the don't make the gel anymore - At least, I couldn't find it.

It is interesting that there are a number of complaints about the company spamming users here. For the record I first saw the product on TV. I wouldn't purchase a product from anyone spamming me.

OTOH, they may be spamming me and I have no idea as my spam filter is pretty aggressive.
