If the add specifies things like "prices valid from 1June - 6June" then it falls under the deceptive advertising laws and they can be forced to honor the pricing until they advertise a correction.

Without the clauses like the "prices valid from" clause, the ad is considered an invitation to come to the store, but with those types of clauses it's considered an offer to sale at that price.

If you'd like I can point to case law in CA where a car dealer advertised a 1995 Jag VP for $25k by error. The manager didn't see the proof sheet before the ad went out to correct it to a 1994 Jag (non-VP). Someone offered to buy it for the advertised price on the spot and they refused. The purchaser sued and won the case. The courts decided that it was the dealer's responsibility to confirm the ad and that since the ad was for THAT Jag at THAT price, it was considered an offer and had to be honored. If the ad had said something like "Jag XJ6's starting at $25k" they would have been off the hook.

I don't buy from Amazon. Haven't for a while. I was annoyed at something they did a while back and decided not to shop there anymore. This thread just reaffirms my decision to not give them any more of my money.

ALL states have the laws to protect the consumer; and that's one of them. A store can not advertise a price for anything and back out of it without just cause.

            Not a spam.

Some stores, both local and otherwise claim they lose money on returned items and if indivuals return too many purchases, they then get black listed. And Amazon has joined that group of stores. I can see both sides of the action, but I think it's somewhat unfair to blacklist without due process. Just my two cents worth of....

I agree. Perhaps they could state that people would only get a certain number of returns per year before getting da boot.

I purchased from Amazon two times. First type was a deal with Bessey clamps, it was ok. The second time was a promotion of the new Hitachi router with a free rotary sander. Followed all the instructions to the letter, never got the sander. Wrote Amazon
3 times about it, got a it's out of our hands response. No more Amazon for me.

*totally* agree. Quick -- go get a job running Amazon! You'd be a breath of fresh air.

I think Amazon, NOT Sears, Roebuck, and Co., is the culprit here:

Sorry, should have been more careful with the context. I was talking about Amazon, not Sears.

Here is a crazy thought: log onto your amazon account and see if it is actually locked or has any notes on it.

We can come up with all sorts of conjecture and bad mouth amazon all day but until we know if this email is ligit none of it means anything.

One way to bring a lot of attention to this would be to post your story on consumerist.com. I'm sure many people would want to hear about this. In fact, some companies have received so much bad press that they've set up special CS numbers for consumerist.com readers.
I really am going to make something one of these days.

LOML says if I got banned it would probably save money. No way, I would probably just go to local Woodcraft and buy my tools. I could drive up to Washington to the Grizzly store and load up my Pickup.
