This is the cover story in the new issue of Wood Magazine.

The fun part is the guy building this is about 20 minutes from me. I may have to look him up and see about a tour.

My copy just arrived yesterday and I read the article this morning - very cool indeed. Having a fender bender would be interesting to repair...

WOW! What a project!! That's a perfect example of why you can never have too many clamps.

Naaaah, don't be silly! It's Wood magazine! The plans are in the centerfold!

Just got it today. If he's 20 minutes from you, Crokett, he's probably just down the street from me.

Just saw it at Lowes yesterday. Pretty cool. Just skimmed through it cuz I was in a hurry. They had 1 pic of a glue-up with literally about 100 clamps. I guess the old ww cliche is true. I believe the top speed is 200mph. I wonder what happens to wood at that speed? Also what happens if the engine over heats? Here's their site

The British made a fighter bomber during WW2 called the Mosquito. It was a twin engine and flew over 350 MPH. It was called the "Timber Terror".

And then, of course, there is Howard Hughes' "Spruce Goose"...

I'm wondering what happens if this wooden car gets wet... Does it swell up and get stuck in the garage??

Some late model light aircraft still use wood for portions of the wing structure. Bellancas are famous for this. The problem is that wood is a maintenance headache - more so than aluminum. Unlike aluminum, which can be clad to keep out moisture, wood is just a magnet for water.

I'd also guess wood structures are pretty labor-intensive to build.

The car is awesome and I'd love to know more about how it was built and how it performs.
