    Leavin On A Jet Plane

I got paged out this morning for a customer down situation. Servers couldn't see storage on the network. Folks had been working on it all night, I did some checking and said it sounded like a screwed up config. We did a few tests and that seemed to be it so they started putting right. Once they got it right they wanted to know how it got screwed up.

They had 2 switches named 'Top' and 'Bottom'. Some brainiac had named the config for Top 'Bottom' and the config for Bottom 'Top'. He left the company. So somebody else comes along and changes the config the other day , and quite logically puts 'Top' config on Top switch and Bottom on Bottom. Stupidity keeps me employed.

Now I get to travel next week to tell them all the stuff they are doing wrong. Either Texas or Tennessee, not sure which yet.

Didja hear about the network engineer in San Francisco who hijacked the city's backbone network. It took a personal interview with the mayor to get the passwords.

If you get to Texas, let us know where and when, and maybe, just maybe we could show you some real Texas hospitality. No promises!

In all seriousness, if you are coming to Texas, let us know what area, and we could meet for a cup of coffee or something!

haha. Put a sign on there that says "never use 'wr erase' before 'copy start run'" and see what happens.

You'll be gainfully employed for years to come.

Tennessee, no ETA. was supposed to be end of next week but no word yet. I hopefully will know more at the beginning of next week.

Different vendor on this one but I know what you mean. I always tell my customers after they make changes, copy run start, then copy run to ftp.

I'm in Crossville TN for the summer. Let me know if you're coming to this area and we can meet for a cup of IBM #10 and trade war stories. I retired from Big Blue after 30 yrs.
