Chicago Area - Any construction on 294 ?

    Anybody from Chicago area:

On Monday we are driving from Toronto to Milwaukee and if all goes OK, we will get to Chicago area around 1 PM. I am taking 294 to bypass Chicago traffic. It is a toll highway and a bit longer than 94 but I hope it is faster. My question: is there any significant construction that I should know and avoid? Just hate to pay and then sit in the traffic.

    Thanks for the info.

    It's Chicago. There's always construction!

Seriously though- it's not that bad.

Here's the closure info- be sure to pay attention to the dates though.

And here's a darn accurate real-time traffic info page

It also has traffic info for Milwaukee on that site as well.

Thanks for the reply and the two URL's. There are lots and lots of information in there . From what I can see, even with those constructions, 294 is a better choice (than 94). I am just glad that I don't do this too often.

      Thanks again!

        Turaj,

Here is the web site for the IL Tollway. It has info on traffic & construction zones.

        www.illinoistollway.com

FYI There can be backups in Indiana before you get into IL if there is any construction or accidents. Make sure you have change to pay the tolls. There are a lot of trucks during the day and it can take a while to go through the manual lanes.

Thanks Kevin for all the info.

We are planning to leave very early, hopefully we can avoid most of the traffic!
