I am not impressed when some one takes something apart. Have have lots of things in my shop from all parts of our life that I have taken apart. In fact I have one full bin in my storage bins for computer screws and parts.

What really impresses me is when you put it all back together an it works!

Laptop hardware is quite difficult to work on. I had to take mine apart once to replace
the screen hinge and it was no picnic.

I took my current 2 year old laptop apart to add in a 250G hd over the original 100 back in May. I took it apart again in early July to add in an "n' wireless card. I had to take the bottom, the key board and track pad and about 50 screws to do all of this. I got all screws back in without any extra ones left over. That is an accomplishment for me.

I have taken apart dozens of laptops over the past 10 years and back together without a problem, some of them down to the frame itself. I am never afraid to do mine, but I sure hate to do someone else's.

I tried to take my laptop apart to get to a noisy fan. After all the screws were out, the outer case did not want to pop loose. I really did not want to force it off. So, I put back the screws, and booted it up, and there was no more noise. Go figure.

It works. I am testing it by using it to to type this post. I was trading out system boards. XP was getting random locks and hangs, mostly on startup. So far it seems to be working just fine with the new parts.

I've only taken one laptop apart, to replace the backlight in the display. I ended up tearing or damaging some kind of thin conductor. Scratch one laptop!

I'd rather work on a laptop than one of the small case desktops, especially an earlier poorly designed steel one. They usually end up taking some of my blood. I'm still not too fond of taking one apart like you did though.

I have a compaq thats just gone back together for the third time. They had a real problem with solder joints on the power connector. I am thinking of just trashing this one its a real PITA.
