Computer Help Needed - How to FDISK WinXP

My computer started acting strangely recently. I think it may have gotten a virus. In any case, just to be on the safe side, I want to FDISK and FORMAT the drive and reinstall WinXP Home from scratch. The drive is 100 Gb. Although I have installed WinXP a number of times, I don't remember any way to FDISK before FORMATing the entire disk into one partition. Am I forgeting something? Can anyone help? Many thanks.

I don't think fdisk works with ntfs file system, so that could be a problem. Doesn't the XP installer take care of formatting/partitioning for you?

In any case, start over seems a bit drastic unless you really just want a clean sweep -- why not scan the computer first?

You can repartition with the Windows XP installer. If you are paranoid and want to wipe the disk beforehand, download gPartEd. It is a Linux-based bootable CD partition editor. You can repartition the disk before you install XP.

Thanks Alex Franke and Crokett. I want a clean sweep to remove a lot of old junk and thought this would be a good time to do housekeeping. I'll try the Linux program you suggested Crokett. Thanks a lot.
