frivolous lawsuit?

Well, a famous son is suing Duke University for being cut from the golf team:

I have to admit I have a little sympathy for the guy, but life can be brutal. In the real world (AKA Life After College) sometimes new bosses come in and start laying off workers, no matter what previous bosses told them. I doubt if he were a professional caliber athlete he would have gotten cut.

IMO a lawsuit is exactly the wrong way to go. He should either button his lip and finish up at Duke, or peddle his athletic skills to another university.

Too dang bad for Andrew! If he was good enough, he would have stayed on the team. I wonder if his bad behavior was what got him booted?

I remember when the radio station I worked for was sold. On Monday, the new owners told all us on-air people our jobs were safe. By Saturday, we were all gone. Wish I would have thought to sue....

My wife's a Duke alum and she was pretty upset about the way duke's administration handled the lacrosse team incident. In this case, though, it appears young Mr. G is behaving like horse's a...a....a...

I think the famous father is probably pretty ticked off right now and that's why Mr. Giuliani senior is not involved.

If this misguided kid wants to be a pro golfer, he shouldn't be relying on Duke U. (or any other school, for that matter) to make it happen for him. That's not their obligation. And he doesn't have to show his diploma to get a players' card, anyway. They can also cut anybody they want from their team. I think this is just an example of a spoiled rich kid, used to having everything his way, lashing out at somebody who didn't curry to his "legacy". His argument holds no water with me.

He's not a man who can take defeat and go on with life. To get POed is understandable. But what's more important? His education. It appears that his team mates didn't care to have him on the team anyway.

That is completely useless. But it does show he has a furture right up there with his dad.

Maybe he will learn a lesson - get everything in writing... A lot of people get recruited for all sorts of jobs, but that is no guarantee you will keep that job. He was in the bottom half of the team - that plus some poor behavior is not a strong negotiating position.

I thought actual promises of such things were illegal. Probably explains why he doesn't have it in writing.

When I played football, it wasn't necessarily talent that got me in first string. It was showing up for practices, listening and taking advice from the coach, getting along with other team mates as well as opponents. Acting responsibly and respectfully. Not acting like a brat.
I think that is the whole point in team sports for children and teens. It's not how many points you score, but how well you do the above that will see you through to a career. Talent would be honed by doing the above things.

I'm not sad for him. Not at all. It seems he's missed the whole point anyway.

He should not be suing the university. He is just mad he got kicked off the golf team. This is yet another case of one coach promising something and the new coach not keeping the promise. Why should he? It was a promise made by another person. It happens in college athletics all the time.

My wife asked me why people put viruses on computers. I told her it's either because they can make money by it, or just because they can. Same thing applies here.

Sports are no longer fun activities for kids. I think they managed to make everything from t-ball on a competitive sport. It is amusing when you see a High School that barely has enough players to compete because everyone was burned out and quit.
