    Tower Rats

Did anyone watch Dateline last night? It was about 'tower dogs', the guys that climb cell phone towers for maintenance. They kept saying it is the most dangerous job in America. Didn't sit real well with LOML since our youngest does this for a living.

He went through a climber recertification yesterday and he and his partner drove to Laredo last night to start working on some towers today. The boss called them with a change. Take their safety gear to Brownsville, put it in safe storage, and then retreat to McAllen and hotel down to ride out Dolly. He expects a lot of damaged towers from the storm and wants to have teams in the area, ready to go.

Wasn't thinking clear earlier and wrote Tower Rats instead of Dogs. (Actually, he prefers Monkey!)

I wish I'd seen that. There is a tower across the road from my house. A couple times there have been guys on it and you can hear them talking about stuff, laughing, etc.

The chief cause of failure in this life is giving up what you want most for what you want at the moment.

I was a communications engineer and had tower crews working for me all the time. It's not even close to the most dangerous job, try getting out of a 'copter onto a LIVE 1MV power line! And then you got cops, fire fighters and cab drivers.
