    Prayers (and q for MilDoc)

My mother, 72 years young recently was taken to the hospital via ambulance due to what we initially thought was a stroke. She went into convulsions and became unresponsive. After running some tests it was determined she didn't have a stroke but had an extremely low blood count due to internal bleeding. They've since given her a transfusion and did an endoscopy to make sure the tear which caused had healed itself (which thank God it had). Her blood cell count was increasing but the last one dropped slightly from the one before it. My family is a very religious one and believe highly in the power of prayer. If you have the time please send out a prayer for her. Thank you.

    MilDoc,
What usually is the cause of anemia? Take into account, her age, doesn't smoke, drink, has hadn't had any falls. Thanks in advance for your expertise.

Don't have any answers but I do believe in the power of prayer. So therefore I will be lifting up your Mom and entire family in prayer.

I have lived through many times where prayer was the only explanation why something happened....so you got it buddy, prayers are sent.

Your mom will be included in my prayers, Jussi. I suggest you do a Google search on anemia. You will get more information than you could possible digest in a lifetime...

                Regards...

In this case the internal bleeding was the cause, and probably occurred over a brief period of time to cause those symptoms. What caused the bleeding is another question - lots of possibilities. Other causes of anemia especially at her age - deficiency of iron, vitamin B12, and / or folic acid. More serious causes include anything that causes bone marrow shutdown (leukemia, lymphoma, etc).

                    In my prayers also ....

Thank you for all your prayers. And it turned out they worked because she was released today with a steady blood cell count and is doing much better now, and God willing will stay that way. Doctor put her on a soft food diet and green vegetables for iron. Again, thank you for your prayers.
