    Another Bad Day

AT 5:30pm PDT it looked like Dusk outside. The temp is 5-6 lower than forcast because of the SMOKE. Stayed in all day would not let Grandaughter go out to play. Air is rated unhealthy and it is miserable. The fire fighting planes are grounded including the DC 10 they were using. When they used to burn the Rice Fields in the fall it wasn/t this bad. It might get better later this weekend. It is bad in the mountains, they cancelled the Western State 100 mile foot Race from Squaw Velley down to Auburn. Son called from Boise Idaho and said the smoke has drifted over there. That is 437 air miles from here.

Yeah, it is REALLY bad here. I just picked up our cat from the vet and it is very thick out there - kind of like fog in the winter here. My throat is a bit scratchy and my eyes are a bit watery. Luckily I am on vacation and can stay inside.

I am currently only working on projects inside the house - painting at the moment, so I am breathing a different kind of pollutant!

I will take this over the heavy rain and flooding. Just wish we would have gotten more rain and snow last winter. I least I can go into my own house and play with the grandaughter. There is an AC sitting out in the garage ready to installed in the shop if I had it in I could go out there and work on projects but smoke is too bad to be there working in this stuff.
The sun is kind of red/orange

Same thing over by the Bay. The light is dim and we can smell the smoke. I need to get some exercise but can't bear the thought of breathing in so much soot.

Hard to believe the tankers are grounded.

Yeah, it looks like Beijing around here! You can look straight at the sun, no problem, the smoke is so thick. And we're probably 75 miles at least from the nearest major fire. I hear that it's supposed to be hotter and dryer this weekend, with more lightning expected.

I flew to SJC on Wed morning. Monterey was shrouded in smoke. No wind, so it was just hanging there. I guess that's good for the firerighters, but the citizenry are all getting smoked out.

Sorry that it's so bad for all you guys out there. I hope that you all stay safe. Between wildfires and earthquakes, I don't think that I'd be able to deal with CA. Thinking good thoughts for you to get some wet weather to slow things down.

I guess you just get used to it on some level - earthquakes (at least serious ones) are rare. I don't think I'd be able to deal with the threat of tornados and hurricanes that others live with. The devil you know I suppose.

This is probably the worst early fire season I can remember in the 4 years I've lived out here.

I thought I was paying extra for the excellent weather and breathtaking scenery. I guess smoke and earthquakes are a bonus.

Part of the problem, of course, is over 100 years of fire suppression. We have a place at Lake Tahoe and the forest services has been busy thinning trees in the built-up areas because they're so thick and there's so much fuel on the ground. We clean up the space around our properties every year and hope.
