The only problem I see with suspecting plant exposure is you said the rash was also on his buttocks, and other areas that I assume were covered. So, unless he was outside naked .....

Contact photosensitization only occurs on areas the plant contacts and are exposed subsequently to the sun.

The Mayo Clinic site contains lots on info on illnesses I can't spell. It is easy to use as long as you know the first letter of the illness. Hope his health improves soon.

The Mayo Clinic site has lots of medical info easily accessed by those of us who can't spell medical terms. All you need is the first letter to look something up.
