    Need Some Norton Symantec Help

LOML decided she didn't want Norton anymore, so, I'll try to give a brief description of what happened.

She first uninstalled Norton and downloaded Trend Micro PC-cillin. Then she couldn't link to the internet, and I.E. was disabled. Then she uninstalled Trend and downloaded McAfee, same problem.

So, not wanting to spend more money and to get some security on the computer to pay bills, using Firefox which was her default browser, she downloaded Avast.

Well after fooling with her computer all afternoon and into the night, she finally got I.E to work, but now everything is slow and gets hung up. She did the "config" thing to see what was running at boot up, and there was a list of Norton stuff and some with file sharing. When she went to delete what she thought wouldn't bring down her computer, a message came up saying she couldn't do that because she wasn't the Administrator, even though she is.

Now she is in a quandary on what to do and what can be eliminated safely and how to do it.

    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Norton(Symantec) which I hate is a nasty software that I keep away from the house. One of its curses is that, when uninstalled it still lingers around like a lazy off-spring.
Google "How to remove Norton antivirus" and you'll get lots of help.

I had Norton for a couple weeks and still have remnants. For the naive, Norton is the virus.
Sometimes the old man passed out and left the am radio on so I got to hear the oldie songs and current event kind of things

I had Norton tools on my machine for a year or so, but so much crap kept getting by it, I finally made the switch to McAfee. As others have mentioned, Norton did not completely vacate when it was told to, and McAfee did not work properly on initial install. I had to spend, as I recall, a couple of hours on the phone with McAfee tech support rooting out the offending files and processes, one at a time. You may be in for something similar.

I used both Norton and McAfee for many years until they both became major resource hogs.

Avast! has a free version of its virus protection software that I've been using on three computers for the last 2 years. Doesn't hog memory and disk space, works great and it's free.

You might think I haven't contributed much to the world, but a large number
of the warning labels on tools can be traced back to things I've done...
