    Need Photoshop help

I'm running Photoshop 7.0, but I haven't used it much lately. I'm scanning a book, and I made an action to sharpen and save the image to a new folder. I have successfully done this with 4 new folders I made, but now that I'm trying to save to a 5th new folder, I get the message "Could not complete the action, since the destination folder does not exist". The destination folder does exist.

I shut Photoshop down, then restarted it while immediately holding down Shift/Alt/Ctrl. This brought up a box asking me if I want to delete the Photoshop settings file. I said "Yes". If I'm not mistaken, this means I deleted the preferences file. On restarting, a new preferences file should be made. But nothing I do corrects the situation. No matter where I set the destination folder (even a folder holding other files), I get the message that the action could not be completed because the destination folder does not exist. Any suggestions??

    Ed,

I work on a Mac, so I'll try to convert this in my head.

Firstly, it sounds like somethings screwy with your operating system, hopefully you're not running Vista.

Make a new folder, name it Fred (I always use this name for testing) and have it on your desktop. I just re-read your post and you state you made an action, perhaps the action corrupted itself, check how you wrote the action and re-do it again.

Lastly, if you dont have zillions of scans to do, ditch the action and do it manually, I usually stay away from writing actions as even the batch work usually requires me to do some individual diferences in sharpening, curves, hue & saturation and levels to each image.

Good luck and don't give up. Pshop is a ***** to really master, but its worth it. The analogy is an application that rivals a two thousand blade Swiss Army Knife.

Also there's a ton of free tutorials on the web, just google photoshop tutorials.

    Best of Luck,

    Bruce

      Ed,

I know its a catchall but did you try rebooting first. PS is really memory hungry and if you start to run out all storts of strange things start to happen.

I'm a long way from being a Photoshop expert, but I've been using it long enough to get my feet pretty wet. Mostly I used it to restore old family photos, which went pretty well.

I have gone as far as to shut down the system completely, so I don't think it's a system resource issue. I also have enough RAM. It could be a corrupted action, but I've only used it 4 times, with no problem. I do have a zillion files to work on, so I'll try re-writing the action. In this case, perfection is not required, so I'll run an action if possible. Thanks for the replies.

        Ed

Edit: It must have been a corrupted file. After making a new action, I was able to sharpen and save 52 files in no time. Thanks again for the help.

Any odd characters in the folder name? We've discovered that it's possible to make a new folder in Explorer with a name that no program can access!

Nope. Just plain old English. But all is good now.
