    I climbed the mountain...

    ... and came away disappointed.

I was on business travel in Ottawa this week. With a few minutes to spare, I dropped in the Lee Valley store. It wasn't nearly as much fun as I thought it would be.

Most tools are displayed behind plexiglass. The planes are displayed behind a counter, so I could barely see them. The place was very crowded (mid-week, mid-afternoon). You have wait in line to go get to the counter to order your product - even magazines and books.

The catalogs are great, and the tools get rave reviews. I'd rather shop at Rockler or Woodcraft.

That's too bad, their catalogs should come with bibs. I had the same feelings when I stopped by the "vaulted" Highland Hardware in Atlanta. Nice place, friendly staff but I guess I was expecting something much more than ever existed.
Now Grizzly's store, that was a treat. Pat

You need to attend one of our great Canadian wood shows. LV has a load of tool on display and you can even get hands on with some of them.
