Do you remember this song from the fifties?

    I got an Eldorado Cadillac
With a spare tire on the back.

    I got a charge account at Goldblatt's
    But I ain't got you.

I got a tavern and a liquor store.
    I hit the numbers 044.

    I got a mojo, don't you know
I'm all dressed up, but no place to go.

I got women to the left of me
I got women to the right of me
I got women all around me
    But I ain't got you.

Anyone remember that? I have no idea why I remember the words, but I do.

    Nope, don't remember that one.

But I do remember all the words to:

    "Flying Purple People Eater," and

"Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini!"

Since we're on the theme of cars--how 'bout this one?

My pappy said, "Son, you're gonna' drive me to drinkin'
If you don't stop drivin' that Hot Rod Lincoln"

Have you heard this story of the Hot Rod Race
When Fords and Lincolns was settin' the pace?
That story is true, I'm here to say
I was drivin' that Model A

It's got a Lincoln motor and it's really souped up
That Model A Vitimix makes it look like a pup
It's got eight cylinders, uses them all
It's got overdrive, just won't stall

With a four-barrel carb and a dual exhaust
And four-eleven gears you can really get lost
It's got safety tubes, but I ain't scared
The brakes are good, tires fair

Pulled out of San Pedro late one night
The moon and the stars was shinin' bright
We was drivin' up Grapevine Hill
Passing cars like they was standing still

All of a sudden in a wink of an eye
A Cadillac sedan passed us by
I said, "Boys, that's a mark for me!"
By then the tail light was all you could see

Now the fellas was ribbin' me for bein' behind
So I thought I'd make the Lincoln unwind
Took my foot off the gas and man alive
I shoved it on down into overdrive

Wound it up to a hundred and ten
My speedometer said that I hit top end
My foot was glued like lead to the floor
That's all there is and there ain't no more

Now, the boys all thought I'd lost my sense
And telephone poles looked like a picket fence
They said, "Slow down! I see spots!"
The lines on the road just look like dots

Took a corner; sideswiped a truck
Crossed my fingers just for luck
My fenders was clickin' the guardrail posts
The guy beside me was white as a ghost

Smoke was comin' from out of the back
When I started to gain on that Cadillac.
Knew I could catch him, I thought I could pass
Don't you know by then we'd be low on gas?

We had flames comin' from out of the side
Feel the tension, Man! What a ride!
I said, "Look out, boys, I've got a license to fly!"
And that Caddy pulled over and let us by

Now all of a sudden she started to knockin'
And down in the dips she started to rockin'
I looked in my mirror; a red light was blinkin'
The cops was after my Hot Rod Lincoln!

They arrested me and they put me in jail
And called my pappy to throw my bail
And he said, "Son, you're gonna' drive me to drinkin'
If you don't stop drivin' that Hot ... Rod ... Lincoln!"
      Jeff

          More of the same:

          Beep Beep (Little Nash Rambler)

          cho: Beep beep (beep beep),
          Beep beep (beep beep),
His horn went beep beep beep (beep beep).

While riding in my Cadillac, what to my surprise,
A little Nash Rambler was following me, about one-third my size.
The guy must have wanted to pass me out
As he kept on tooting his horn (beep beep).
I'll show him that a Cadillac is not a car to scorn.

          cho:

I pushed my foot down to the floor to give the guy the shake,
But the little Nash Rambler stayed right behind, he still had
          on his brake.
He must have thought his car had more guts,
As he kept on tooting his horn (beep beep).
I'll show him that a Cadillac is not a car to scorn.

          cho:

My car went in to passing gear and we took off with gust,
And soon we were doing ninety, must have left him in the dust.
When I peeked in the mirror of my car, I couldn't believe my eyes.
The little Nash Rambler was right behind, you'd think that
          guy could fly.

          cho:

Now we're doing a hundred and ten, it certainly was a race,
For a Rambler to pass a Caddy would be a big disgrace.
The guy must have wanted to pass me out as he kept on tooting his horn.
I'll show him that a Cadillac is not a car to scorn.

          cho:

Now we're doing a hundred and twenty, as fast as I could go.
The Rambler pulled alongside of me as if we were going slow.
The fellow rolled his window down and yelled for me to hear:
"Hey, buddy, how can I get this car out of second gear?"
          .

Does this one ring any bells?

              Hey, Little Cobra
              Don't you know
              You're gonna shut'em down

I took my Cobra down to the track
Hitched to the back of my Cadillac
Everyone was there just a waiting for me
There were plenty of Stingrays and XKEs

              Spring little Cobra
              Getting ready to strike
              Spring little Cobra
              With all of your might
              Spring little Cobra
              Getting ready to strike
              Spring little Cobra
              With all of your might
              Hey, little Cobra
              Don't you know
              You're gonna shut'em down

              When the flag went down
              You could hear rubber burn
The Stingray had me going into the turn
I hung a big shift and I got into high
And then I flew by the Stingray
              I waved bye-bye

              Spring little Cobra
              Getting ready to strike
              Spring little Cobra
              With all of your might
              Spring little Cobra
              Getting ready to strike
              Spring little Cobra
              With all of your might
              Hey, little Cobra
              Don't you know
              You're gonna shut'em down

              Around the far turn
              In the straight-away
              I was blowing off everything
              That got in my way
              The Stingrays and Jags
              Were so far behind
I took my Cobra out of gear
And I coast to the line

              Spring little Cobra
              Getting ready to strike
              Spring little Cobra
              With all of your might
              Spring little Cobra
              Getting ready to strike
              Spring little Cobra
              With all of your might
              Hey, little Cobra
              Don't you know
              You're gonna shut'em down
              Shut'em down
              Shut'em down
              Shut'em down

                Heck yeah cabman!

I had a 57 Chevy. Stroked, bored, chopped and decked. Raced it at Heidelberg Raceway. Never won, but it was fun!

When I was living in Germany (2000-2003) I heard this song on the radio in GERMAN except for this one line. And here i was doing 95 mph on the Autobahn. Wife and I were in tears laughing so hard. Don't know how I kept car on the road but I was down to 60 by the end of the song.

Was the Clapton version with Blind Faith? I remember it, but would like to know who did the original.

My FAVORITE version was by Andrew Dice Clay in Ford Fairlane.
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

Here's a really obscure song. It was on the flip side of the "SS 396" 45.

Corvair Baby Paul Revere and the Raiders
                            (W. Stone)

Well, I got a gal & it drives the most, Corvair baby
We head for the course way down on the coast, Corvair baby
I'll make the foot surge, she says "oh yeah"
I'll make the seconds just now
'Bout the time we're in the street away, she's by my side
But wo yeah, she digs my style

Stick with me, baby, & stay by my side, Corvair baby
'Cause I want you there whenever we ride, Corvair baby
We'll be together wherever we go, & everybody will know
'Cause you're my baby, my Corvair baby & I'll, I'll never let you go

                            (instrumental)

Well I'll make the foot surge, she says "oh yeah"
I'll make the seconds just now
'Bout the time we're in the street away, she's by my side
But wo yeah, she digs my style

                            (repeat verse 2)

                            (repeat & fade):
You're my baby, my Corvair baby & I'll, I'll never let you go
You might think I haven't contributed much to the world, but a large number
of the warning labels on tools can be traced back to things I've done...
