Hey RayintheUK, how are fuel prices?

There was a thread at another woodworking forum with discussion of fuel prices hitting $7/gallon here in the next two years. Got to thinking, how are prices over there? Have they gone up the equiv. of $2/gallon (liter?) in the last 2-3 years? Have governments had to adjust taxes on fuels?

In would be interesting to know what is happening on the other side of the pond.

This discussion not limited to Ray, BTW. I'd love to hear from anyone outside of North America.

The Brits have a stiff upper lip. I'm sure they won't be complaining about gas prices, they'll just hunker down like they did during the Battle of Britain. Right??

That is an interesting article. I was hoping to get some real-world reports of any increases seen at the pump over the last couple of years in other parts of the world. From that I can isolate differences between currencies and draw ridiculous conclusions.

I've read and watched a few news reports regarding gas prices in the US that make the point that gas prices in Europe are much, much higher and have been for many years. The implied message (to me) is "Shut your whining, others have it worse and they're not complaining". I found it interesting to hear that there are widespread protests and marches in France regarding high fuel prices, including a blockade of ports by French fishermen that has been going on for the past week.

Looking at the link, the cheapest gas: Venezuela....12 cents/gal.

I wonder if a car will run on it?

Diesel is currently $9.31 US Gallon here and petrol is $8.34 US Gallon at current conversion rates.

Since January 2008, the price of fuel has increased by around $1.85 per US Gallon. HTH.

The trouble is, we also have a stiff at the head of our government.

I cannot say more because that would break the Forum rules and I like this place! However, there is already a noticeable hike in the cost of living here and I don't imagine 2008 will pass without some form of trouble as a result.

Hmmm--I don't think I'd want to live in most countries with low gas costs. There seems to be a relationship between repressive governments and cheap gas...

It would be better in the long run for all countries to pay the "real" rate for gasoline without subsidies or excessive taxes. For obvious reasons that would be hard to implement in most countries, including our own.

On another forum, after converting to U.S. dollars/gallons, a guy in Britain posted that he paid $8.92/gallon for diesel in April. I guess we should feel lucky in the U.S.

Is that a good thing or a bad thing? You know the motto of Stiff Records (the label that Elvis Costello and Nick Lowe got started on?) "If it ain't stiff, it ain't worth a ****"...

I didn't know that motto, but in the context I used the word, replace with any rude noun you like!

Put gas in both vehicles last night 13.857 gal in the Expedition 55.00 + .45 atm card charge. $3.969 a gallon. Did not fill Expedition up. Put 15.979 gal. In my Toyota Tacoma Pick up $59.90 with atm charge filled it up. Both Vehicles were near empty. Figure Expedition neede about 10 more gallons to fill it up. Wont' be using them after today as we leave for Boise in the morning and I an Son fly to Indy late Saturday afternoon. Will returen it Boise Sunday night and home on Tuesday night. If it rains might stay in Indy longer. I imagine the next time I fill up it will be over $4 a gallon. Arco Am/Pm seems to be the cheapest in town right now.
