      Steven?? Dunno who he is but I can fill you in. Repair guy confirmed no signal at the house. He put a tone generator on at my house then started working his way back to the central office. He came back and said a couple connection points down it looks like a critter may have gotten into the switch. During one of the storms we had I guess the cover got opened somehow.

      I asked about using a multimeter to test and he said in my case it wouldn't do anything since only the phone line has voltage. DSL is just data. I'd just always assumed both were voltage but I guess it makes sense.

        The DSL signal is an audio signal above the normal telephone voice band cutoff of 3Khz. You need a TIMS unit or wide-band scope (or dedicated tester) to measure the signal.
