Hey -- great site! Thanks for the link!

I've seen a couple of those others around there, too -- I think the biggest problem for me is seeing something move when you don't expect anything to be moving -- and knowing that that something probably has sharp teeth. Before my brain even notices any markings, I've already leapt 10 feet away My brain gets "unexpected motion," "JUMP!" and only then does it get to process what I might have actually seen!

I think snakes (like spiders and sharks, I'm sure) have a bad reputation in general, though -- and it's a shame... they're very distinguished looking creatures.

I killed what I thought was a copperhead on Saturday. From that link it was a cottonmouth. Big one too - he was at least as long as my shovel.

Oh great -- so much for being out of the cottonmouth's range... And here I was thinking all I had to worry about here was the copperhead.... oh, and of course that invasive snakehead fish, which apparently crawls out of the water and walks upright on two fins while group stalking human prey... (well, at least that's what the rumors would have me believe. )

Anyway, that's a good reason to always carry a shovel.

Ugh. If I ever see a snake within 50 feet of my house, I'm moving. I hate snakes. I was hiking one time and saw a snake on the path. I was petrified. Even after I realized it was dead, with little ants scurrying around it, I still couldn't move. When I did finally got my leg muscles working again, I made a big beeline around the snake. You know, just in case it's a zombie snake and jumps out at me. (Still gives me the heebie-jeebies when I think about it.)

As of tonight when my wonderful husband get home he will no longer be posting on the forum as I AM GOING TO KILL HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He asked me when he called if I had been on the forum and that I should read this post and all he said is that "its black" so thinking it was a cute little puppy or cat I open it while still talking with him and I yelled at him on the phone, and all he could do was laugh.

I like Anna do not like snakes at all!!!!!!!! Can't stand to watch them on television, view them in a magazine or book and if I see one (garden snakes) in our yard I literally run the other way. So Mark knowing this tells me to open this post that I should see it......Man I am never going to fall for that one again...

Hey Russianwolf you can keep that critter at your house.

I have always been a defender of wildlife. But, since a rattler bit my puppy last month, I have little tolerance for snakes. I have a .22 rifle loaded with snake shot, at the ready.

Luckily Marsh, the puppy, is all better. The speedy treatment with antivenin and a hyperbaric chamber, prevented the sloughing that is common with rattle snakes.

I thought there was a rule that, all posting that included snakes were to be identified for Mrs. Walnut.
