    screw finish preference and thoughts?

I've been needing to order some screws and stuff, from McFeely's. My father would like to order some screws as well (he has used from their assortments), however, he asked if I could find out what is the most popular finish for the screws everyone uses?

I thought either black or yellow zinc, and he has heard yellow zinc, but no reason why.

    Thanks all

I don't think there is an easy answer to that. Depends on the use, and in some cases, personal preference.

I go by McFeely's recommendations at:

I don't get all my screws from the same distributor. For screws that show, I prefer a plated finish, or one that looks good with the hardware used. For where it doesn't show, it doesn't matter much, as long as it's a premium product. The same requested finish from different manufacturers may be different in performance or looks. It's worthwhile to know who has what.

Screws from the box stores are inferior IMO, to stock from specialized distributors.

I'm a hodge-podge for mine. Typically I buy a 2 pound box at the BORGS based in size, but never finish. Type (fine or coarse) of threads is usually the only other concern.

        Sorry
Enco 12" RT table saw(with router table currently added to right wing), Central Machinary 6" jointer, Delta 16" (17-900) drill press, Ridgid 14" bandsaw, Jet bench top Mortising machine, Porter Cable 6901 series routers (2) and a wide variety of Ryobi 18v tools.
