Scam Alert!

I received this email today from the "IRS". The link that's attached informs me that I can receive the refund as a credit to my credit card. It asks for a credit card number and my SS#. The URL address was not to the IRS.gov. It's a pretty slick offer and I fear that alot of people will bite on it. Maybe it's legit but it sure set off my radar.


After the last annual calculations of your fiscal activity we have determined that you are eligible to receive a tax refund of $139.30. Please submit the tax refund request and allow us 6-9 days in order to process it.
A refund can be delayed for a variety of reasons. For example submitting invalid records or applying after the deadline.

Looks like a total scam to me. Nobody refunds to a CC unless you originally paid for something with it. The IRS sends checks or direct deposit.

The URL would certainly have a .gov domain and something to do with the IRS. This one "toyooka.jp" hardly sounds very governmental and I thought .jp domains were in Japan!!!

Sad thing is, with all the info now out about scams, people still fall for it, especially the elderly. And to me, this one is obviously a scam. Credit card number and ssn? Come onnnn. It's actually hard to believe anyone is that gullible. And yes .jp is Japan and the site is in Japan according to my Flagfox add-on. And something in Firefox gave me the following:

Definitely a scam. And yes, some will fall for it. There are a lot of these scams going around.

There isn't a kosher organization that would send an e-mail asking you to log in to a unnamed site and expect you to enter your SSN and CC numbers.

At least not one I'd consider having anything to do with!

Scam for sure.

The IRS will not contact anybody by email and imply that the government owes that individual money. The gov. will send a letter via snail mail if they need to contact someone concerning owed money. As one poster observed, the greedy fall for this scam; BUT there's many who just DON"T know any better. I get at least 7 scams a day in my hotmail account and that's one of them. The only diference is this one is out of Japan. Most come out of UK and Nigeria.
