Dumb Crook = Bad day = Best pen I ever turned

Been a rough 36 hours. A week ago Monday there was a charge on my Bank Account for $27.95 from Columbia House Video Club. Neither I nor LOML belong. Notified them and my bank and the investigation was started. Yesterday there was another charge to my account of $19.98 from School Scholastic at Home. Now I got scared. Called them and my bank but this time I talked to a person in the USA not India as with Columbia House. Found out Mika Krest (Crest?) had made a purchase using my card debit card # and address. After not sleeping more than 2 hours last night I went to my bank and filed a disputed charge letter with them and Visa. cancelled my Debit card and got a temporary card untill the new one arrives. This afteroon LOML tells me last week the Mailman asked her about a package and if it was ours. I had explained what was done and the persons name and she said the was the name on the package that was returnded to sender. I saw him today and warned him about another package coming he said he will watch for it and turn it over to the Postmaster for investigation. Both charge were refunded to may account late this afternoon. The police have been notified and if the person shows up asking for her package we are to call 911 and have them deliver it.

Being up all night and to keep my mind under control I went out in the shop and turned a pen using Camatillo, which is a rosewood from mexico. Dark purple with black stripes. I used a pice of purple acrylic from a Credit Card pen I turned for the Grand daughters, see post under truning for picture of the pens, for the center band. It was a varation of the European pen with Platnium parts. I turned out breath taking as LOML said. I tried to take picture with my digital but it doesn't work as the wood is so dark the true color and stripes don't show up. It is a beauty if I say so my self with the Dark purple with the Purple acrylic center band and silver hardware. I am going to make another using the other Purple acrylic cut off from the other Credit Card pen I turned over the weekend.

So every thing truned out good now it would be real nice if the dummy would show up asking for the package the was missent to my address. Now I have figure out how she got my info. I can see how the card could be compromised but my address also? I will be going back and looking the transaction on my account prior to 4/29 and see if I can tell when it might have happened. Best advice I have check your account daily if you have computer access and becareful where you use it. I am thinking it might have been a bill payment where I use the card as a credit card and they would have my address on my account and an employee got the info. Least I have my money back and my account is safe for now.

      One possible explanation

A company that I worked for was a constant victim of minor fraud like this. Crooks would test stolen cards by ordering something small from them. If that transaction went through successfully, then they could hit another company for something major.

        Credit Card Fraud

I've been the victim of three instances of major credit card fraud in the last few years. Best guess is that someone at a restaurant used one of those little swipe devises that captures all the data on a card. Over $15,000 of charges for major electronics components were made against the card in Best Buy stores in Florida within a matter of hours of each other. Fortumnately, my credit card company caught on after the first purchase in each instance and notified me so that we could freeze the accounts. I didn't have to pay any of this. The card company took the hits.

Anyway, I never use my cards at restaurants anymore (or anywhere else where the card would ever be out of my sight), and I won't go near a Best Buy store.

I will try and post a piciture in the truning section later today.

We think we know how it happened as who ever stole the info used my address as a shipping address. Went over all the transactions from April 1st and the only one that came about was at the time when I went to Idaho for a week on the 21st and filled my T-Mobil to go cell phone using my Visa/atm/debit card (no pin) and had to supply my address at the time did it again while in Idaho and a few days later the charge showed up and again the following weekend after I came home on the 29th. The patteren was as you said a couple of small charges to see if it worked, the first time it did and the second it didn't as I was on the imediately. I will get ahold of my bank and let them know where I think the theft came from and also T-Mobil. We don't use the Cell phone much so it was easier to get one we filled as needed, that may change now.

The time that LOML card info was stolen and used it was from putting something on lay-away at TJ-Maxx. An unscrupulous clerk took the number, name, and address and used if to play online poker. She got busted as we were able to use her email address that was registered with the site to track her down.
