Call me a nitpicker, but the pictures make it look like just a 27-storied hotel, with rather ostentatious interiors... mostly artist's impression, but the one picture of the balcony is pretty ugly.

Of course, the fact that the 2nd most expensive is just around $70 million, makes you wonder...

I really expected lack of good sense (I mean, the very wastefulness is galling), but the lack of good architecture is shocking. Is that all they could come up with?

I cannot do better than this blogger who minces no words in pointing out the utter irrationality of it all.

Reminds me of Tolstoy's excellent short-story 'How much land does a man need?', where he concludes : 6 feet.

At least these other 'cheap' houses look good.

Gotta agree. If I spent a BILLION for a home, that design would NOT be my choice!

Oracle CEO Larry Ellison's mansion is not far from where I live. Never seen it but it's in a Japanese style and cost him $200 million. He claims that because there's so much content no one else would ever want, it should be assessed at only $70 million for tax purposes.

The son of a family friend actually got inside the place. No shoes allowed because all of the floors are made of a pretty delicate, unfinished wood that's common in traditional Japanese homes.

We're getting ready to build a house on a ridge that has a "filtered view" of Lake Tahoe. Our concessions to luxury are spaces over the garage for LOML to do her thing and under the garage for a REAL shop. Oh, and radiant hydronic heating in the floors. My wife is buying recycled furniture for the place on eBay.
